The Man In Love
Paul gave us a most valuable insight here. He prayed for the Ephesian church that God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, would grant them to be strengthened with might in their inner through the Holy Spirit so that the nature of Christ would dwell richly in their hearts and that they will be “rooted and grounded in love.” The prayer was also aimed at making the saints to comprehend every dimension of the love of Christ – the width, length, depth and height thereof. Finally, he desired for them to know through the Spirit the “love of Christ which passes knowledge” and to be filled with all the fullness of Christ.
This prayer represents perhaps the singular most comprehensive scripture for appreciating that the love of Christ is only accessible through the Holy Spirit and it is very deep if we must understand it. Being rooted and grounded in that love is required and is not based on just noting or appreciating the husbands-love-your-wives command. Comprehending every dimension of Christ’s love is equally deep and we can see the quest to know the love of Christ “which passes knowledge.” That mean that we needed more than casual understanding but fuller
