The Man In Love
to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:25-28
From the above quoted scripture, husbands are commanded by God to love their wives. This applies as well to a man and woman in a relationship that is set to transform into a marriage. Men as husbands have not been given any option in the word of God except to relate in love with and toward their wives. We find that there is double emphasis on this love responsibility expected of men toward their wives in the scripture quote. In verse 28, the scripture says “so ought men to love their wives.” The command is an emphatic and serious one given to men.
If we however, recall our discussions in the first chapter on the supremacy of love in the Christian walk, we will not be surprised at this commandment. John 13:34-35 provides the basis for this commandment to husbands with regard to their wives.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
