The Man In Love
Jesus gave this ‘new’ commandment that is in fact a summary of the original Ten Commandments. We understand that all Ten Commandments, referred to in scriptures as “the law,” are complied with automatically once this new commandment is obeyed (Galatians 5:14; Romans 13:8).
This new commandment says the we should “love one another.” It is not specific to any type of relationship. It is omnibus in its requirement and actually includes the relationship between husbands and wives. This is in the same way that it includes all relationships involving two children of God. It means that in all our dealings as children of God, love must be the foundation, motivation and driver of the relationship. Husbands and their wives are expected to be children of God and therefore, their specific relationship also must be guided by love. Specifically, husbands must show love to their wives.
