poisoning in the middle of the night? Should I be ready to put an aspirin between my butt cheeks and do an all out sprint, praying to god I didn’t leave a trail of breadcrumbs behind me? It was during that scenario of me viciously shitting myself, I decided the house wasn’t for me.
Tink and I walked around the neighborhood to a small Amernian grocery store, and took pictures of some other FOR RENT signs. Our next venture was in Valley Village, a small, mostly suburban neighborhood right next to North Hollywood. Conor moved to North Hollywood after he left school, and the mere thought of having to run into him made me complicit with skipping the house; Tink wanted to “give it a chance”.
Although, after a 35 minute trek up and a weird insistence that the smell “was nothing” from our prospective Russian Landlord, Tink’s patience wore thin. We viewed another unremarkable apartment in Glendale, now making three. Tink and I, now tired and hungry, we eventually stopped at Ivanhoe for lunch.We made sure to scope out all pretentious 30 somethings who complain about the $2 extra avocado, they could easily afford.
After about 45 minutes of vicious mockery, Tink and I paid the tab for two fried chicken sandwiches and shirley temples and left. Upon exiting at 12:30pm, LA was raining cats and dogs.
‘Come on, let’s go to Frogtown!” Tink yelled as we ran to her car through the deluge.
Frogtown, for those who don’t know, is unfortunately not a town teeming with amphibians smack dab in the middle of a sprawling metropolis. It is a small neighborhood right next to the LA river where a boy once offered to “fuck my brains out and then get NPR themed sandwiches”. Retrospectively, I have never heard a more LA, or bile inducing sentence in my whole life. Of course with years of crippling self esteem issues and consistent rejection, I took the complete objectification of my body and lack of consideration for my feelings as a compliment.
Fogtown itself is lovely. Idyllic in its quaintness, humbling in its
