                             Razor Knife Blade                Manual Sharpener
                             Early  1800s:  At  first,  pencils  were  sharpened   1828:  French  mathematician  Bernard  Lassi-
                             with  a  sharp  razor  knife  blade.  this  was  not   monne  invented  and  later  received  a  patent
                             only redundant due to the blade being flat, but   for  the  first  manual  pencil  sharpener.  Though
                             was deemed dangerous for schoolchildren.  the  design  was  more  convenient  with  multiple
                                                              blades in a wooden block, Thierry des Estivaux
                                                              improved the design with a single blade.

















                             Rotary Sharpener                 Electric Sharperner

                             1896: The rotary pencil sharpener was invented
