Preface
At the height of a challenging global pandemic and
the subsequent disruption of every single sector of the
local economy, the Namibian people were faced with
imponderable challenges. His Excellency, Dr Hage Geingob,
President of the Republic of Namibia, called upon the Nation
to remain resilient as we continue to face this challenge and
its consequences, together.
The University of Namibia diligently laboured to remain a
valuable resource partner, which both government and the
general public can rely upon. Through the accomplishment
of a series of objectives, the University was able to manage
its own challenges whilst delivering value to the country as a
leading tertiary institution.
UNAM’s National Capstone Contributions details a brief
overview of recent significant developments and projects at
the country’s leading knowledge base. It contains milestones
achieved and ongoing projects of national significance.
Driven by an ambitious vision to position the university as
a sustainable international hub of excellence in higher
education, training, research and innovation by the year
2030, UNAM has continued to make significant strides towards
accomplishing this vision despite COVID-19.
This publication’s structure is informative, featuring only main
research projects, corporate social responsibility initiatives
and capital projects. They range from fields as delicate as
research on food security, to grave matters like COVID-19
emergency support for the country, among others.
As the main stakeholder of this public institution, it is of
paramount importance that Government and stakeholders
are kept abreast of progress that underpin human
development. This is especially important, because as
resources become scarce in the country, UNAM is well placed
to function as both a place of learning and research, and yet
at the same time a dependable resource for national and
global development.
