She places the tray on an impressive giant rosewood desk, where a huge
bouquet of fresh tulips in red and white stands, then she closes the door behind
them.
"Please take a seat, Tom." She points to a high-backed brown leather armchair
and large, old cuttings of brass that stand on one side of the desk. She even takes
a seat on the other side in a large, modern office chair.
The office has a large window area leading onto a huge, tiled terrace. From the
terrace there is a wide staircase leading down into the garden itself. There is a
large copper version of Koglen in the middle of the office as lighting, and in
addition to the large desk there is a brown Børge Mogensen sofa, which is placed
along the wall opposite the desk. Between the sofa and two other Børge
Mogensen-chairs in the same brown colour as the couch there is a smaller, little
table with a large vase containing fresh white lilies.
"Do you require something in your tea?" asks Beatrice, as he looks around in the
office and out into the snow-covered garden.
"No, just black, that's fine for me."
She smiles at him as she is making herself more comfortable in her seat. “I'm
excited to hear what brings you out here in such short notice. Is there anything
new about my late husband?”
Tom takes a swig of tea and looks at the pattern on his cup from Royal
Copenhagen before answering. "Well, yes and no. It's not like we found him or
anything like that.”
She nods.
"As you probably know, there were two Danish men who disappeared in 1984,
and the police couldn't figure out where."
He pauses a little; he wants to say the right thing both out of respect for her, but
also because he wants to make sure the conversation gets right from the start. He
knows that it is extremely important that he formulates the questions correctly.
“I've just been to Germany, where I was actually abducted by some who we
don't really know who is. The only thing we know with reasonable certainty is
that they are in some way connected to Kräsen, the great German dairy giant,
which I can read to you that your ex-husband Johan, had something to do with
before he disappeared. "
