BIG changes are afoot. You may have noticed. Since the last issue of All At Sea, we’ve lost our unbeaten home
record, nose-dived alarmingly towards the drop zone, and sold our best player. We’ve had a player up before the beak. We’ve sacked a complete waster whose attitude was undermining the team, and also Nile Ranger (just my little joke there Phil). Most importantly, we’ve seen the appointment of Chris Powell, the man just about everyone wanted, who brought in three players on deadline day and became the  rst SUFC manager in history to win
his  rst three games. And breathe.
In light of all that, it’s hard to know where to start, but it is great to see Chris Powell back at the club and already you can see the di erence it has made to performances, with players working for each other and regaining some con dence. The  rst three games of his tenure could not have been much tougher, but wins against Scunthorpe and Peterborough really gave us some breathing space, while the Wigan game was simply sensational. The honeymoon period is never going to last forever, but you sense a set of players that had become disillusioned and demotivated under Phil Brown have been galvanised. Hopefully we can get to 52 points as soon as possible.
His backroom sta  are also of pedigree and although it was a real shame to see Graham Coughlan lose his job, you sense a clean sweep was needed. After the ego of Brown, Powell is a refreshing appointment as much as anything and things had been going stale for a while.
The three new signings, Shayon Harrison, Freddie Ladapo and Sam Mantom, have all got something to give. Harrison is a young striker well thought of by his parent club Spurs. Palace saw enough in Ladapo, an ex-Blues youth player, to pluck him from the Isthmian League and he is of an age (25) where he needs a home and needs regular games to show what
