from the centre back and the sense that Brown might not lose that power struggle, incredibly. Barrett is never seen again in polite company, and we get a useful year of Brown I didn’t think we had after the Rochdale debacle.
87–BurtonH13/14–Wegotahome tie for the play-o against them! That was worth it.
86 – Northampton H 14/15 – A game nally won by some heroically bad goalkeeping by Northampton. A boring grind. Welcome to 2014-15 I suppose.
85 – Port Vale H 15/16 – Routine home win. How much would you give to swap that for the 1-1 draw at home the season after and get the last play o spot? I’d say a lot.
84 – Aldershot A 12/13 – Didn’t make up for the two months of nonsense that proceeded it. (I will take Bilel in central mid eld to the grave.) Very poor revenge for the oodlight problem the year before.
83 – York A 14/15 – Conceded twice. Not a Brown win. Also shouldn’t have been a win, because the goalkeeping before Hurst’s goal is hilariously bad.
82 – Cheltenham A 14/15 – The internet says Cli ord scores the only goal. My initial suspicion was that fake news is older than we thought, but it turns out it was a really nice goal. Strange.
81 – Hartlepool H 14/15 – A game in which nothing happened apart from David Worrall’s really nice goal. At least the Hartlepool away kit got what it deserved.
80 – Accrington H 13/14 – I have literally no memory of this game ever happening. Corr’s goal was pretty nicely worked though.
79 – Blackpool H 15/16 – A winner from the centre half in open play? Shows how trusted Mooney was to get in the box and score. Thoroughly forgettable.
78 – Shrewsbury H 14/15 – Coulthirst scored a goal that suggested he could be a really good striker. Then nothing happened for 88 minutes. *Insert cliché about not playing well and winning*
77 – Newport H 14/15 – The team do their best to ruin Dan Bentley’s fabricated clean sheet record and gift Newport a 10 minute urry of chances. Bolger begins his transition to ‘alright’, and Deegan plays a great pass that Deegan can’t play because he only kicks people. Just about more satisfying than
Tranmere the Saturday previous.
76 – Bristol Rovers H 15/16 TROPHY
– In more innocent times when the Trophy mattered. The team in the division below felt aggrieved not to have won and John White scored. Says it all really.
75 – Accrington A 14/15 – Classic #Cleansheetmentality. Barnard does his second of two nice things on his return by scoring a penalty.
74 – Cheltenham H 14/15 – Barrett came back and Joe Pigott’s second was undoubtedly the goal that secured his place in Southend folklore. The game was done after half an hour and probably suited nobody, given Cheltenham were poor enough to suggest seven was a possibility.
73 – Walsall A 17/18 – Classic away performance from a team that showed no inclination of holding a lead the rest of the year #bottle #guts #cleansheetmentality
72 – Cambridge A 14/15 – Oh what fun it is to see Southend win away! A Corr classic. Shove o Cambridge.
71 – Plymouth H 13/14 – A dominant win to start o the season is always good. So is Corr scoring. 1-0 Phil is born.
70 – Portsmouth H 14/15 – Weston’s still not a striker, but it doesn’t matter and some standard Corr fare in the POMO and a nice Coulthirst goal do it.
69 – Crewe A 15/16 – Yes the winner was a mile o side but it could have been ve by the break.
68 – Hartlepool A 13/14 – Nice away win in a spot far more awkward in winter. Two from two. We are going up (eventually)! Eastwood scores and gives us all false hope it’ll be better than last year.
67 – Crawley A 15/16 TROPHY – Pigott scored twice in another of the cup goals that won him the hearts of us all. Progress to the last 16 made me brie y optimistic of a cup run. I know. I feel a fool.
66 – Oldham H 17/18 – A nice glimpse at what might have been if we’d fancied scoring some penalties earlier in the season. Wellens still says he knows how to beat us. The fact he was right is very disconcerting.
65 – Northampton H 13/14 – Corr and Eastwood score in August. Put our name on the trophy now. Yes Northampton were useless all year and were a man light for an hour. Whatever. It’s a home win. We’d been
