My Diamond is Not Wealth
by Jennifer Joseph, Class IX, Khrist Jyoti Academy, Dehradun
My diamond is not wealth
Nor its name sake carbon stone.
For it gives pleasure but for a moment
And the next, if lost by happenstance
It would become a burden for the common man
Who is dreaming of acquiring it back
By any means good or bad.
n
My diamond is not beauty
For it lasts as long as there are accessories.
In today’s world though it is given utmost priority This is how far a human eye can see
Beyond which it never glances at one’s inside beauty. n
Family is a gem, but not my diamond they are
For though they love me, nurture me and care.
And though I love no one on earth as much as I love them The farthest they can go with me
Is till my death bed.
n
My refuge Who is with me for life and beyond
Will be my diamond the fairest of them all!
He is my faithful companion whom I can count on Who carries and guides me
When I’m lost and wondering around Distracted, deceived and deserted though I may be My diamond, my refuge will forever Jesus be.
