Using food scraps and plants that do not survive, they can provide nutrient rich soil for their plant beds, making them healthier.
Maintaining an all-natural garden and greenhouse takes a lot of commitment, especially since pesticides would be an easier alternative when plants suffer from parasites and diseases. Thankfully, the tireless efforts are made enjoyable by the couple’s fondness for working in the garden and the rewarding fruits of their labor.
“Todd has a green thumb too, so we are always outside,” said Theresa. “We work a lot together and we enjoy it. We just love being outdoors.”
Their 16 chickens, most of which are free range, enjoy exploring their yard and laying eggs.
Theresa and Todd built and painted the chicken coup. Just like her other artwork, the coup is made from recycled wood and has a playful quality. The couple painted a sign on top of the door that reads, “Looney’s Little Ladies,” with two painted chickens.
“I especially like knowing that our chickens are happy, healthy and living a good, spoiled, life,” said Theresa. Each chicken even has a name, such as Sweetie or Peggy.
This picnic table was a family heirloom from Theresa’s grandmother. “I’m so happy to have it here for my family to enjoy during warmer weather,” said Theresa.
