This is Sweetie, a Dominique chicken. She is getting ready to lay an egg in her favorite nesting box.
Family love of cooking
Because of how much Theresa loves her chickens, she is eating less meat, especially chicken meat. This influences how she cooks. Her family loves to prepare dishes with their farm fresh eggs and seasonal produce. While she does not sell any of her harvests, she takes great pleasure in providing all natural fruits, vegetables and eggs for her family and neighbors.
“I really enjoy cooking, so it’s nice to have lots of fresh veggies to choose from,” she said.
Some of her favorite dishes to make from her garden include bruschetta, vegetable lasagna, and, of course, deviled eggs.
At festivals, Theresa and Todd enjoy chatting with other bakers, artists and gardeners.
“I love meeting new people and supporting small businesses,” she said. “I like when I see young people taking a jump into the unknown and trying something new.”
Big Red, an ISA Brown chicken, loves to see what treats are available from the garden.

Theresa loves when children ask her questions about how she came up with a certain design or how she painted a certain animal.
“They are so inquisitive and honest,” she said. “They have such genuine smiles when they step into my booth. It really brings me such joy. When they tell me they can’t do art like mine, I tell them to give it a try and practice. They never know what they are capable of until they try.”
Theresa’s work is for sale at Elizabeth Ann Florist and Gift Shop in downtown Watkinsville, as well as Ann Peden at The Market Place off Hog Mountain Road.
“It will forever be humbling when someone likes my art enough to buy it,” she said. “I don’t think I'll ever get over that.”
