For Hodges and the rest of the underclassmen, another season awaits with fresh auditions, new numbers, more rehearsals and more opportunities to shine alongside treasured friends.
For the seniors who have given years to the program, this season’s successes are a proper, if painful, way to say goodbye. Some will continue to dance at the next level, while others may hang up their shoes in pursuit of new passions. For Carter, the lessons learned will transcend the dance floor regardless.
“I’ve become a better person because of the Titan Thrill,” said Carter, who plans to study political science in college. “I’ve learned the difference between the high road and the low road and that kindness to everyone is the most important thing...Even if I may not continue to dance, the pieces of life advice that I have learned are far greater skills. I will take them with me for the rest of my life.”
For Darnell, preparations for next season are already underway. The departure of cherished seniors will bring new dancers to the team, and her extended family of artist-athletes will continue to grow. She notes how alumni continue to share and celebrate the team’s accomplishments on social media years after graduation, remaining a part of the Titan Thrill’s expanding legacy of artistry, excellence and love.
“The legacy is not just the wins or losses,” said Darnell. “The legacy is what it means to be a part of this team.”
