“Unfortunately, sometimes people get animals, and they don’t know anything about the breed and cannot provide the structure or the time ... so, sometimes, it’s just not a right fit,” Berisko said. “I’d rather that animal be surrendered than potentially get so frustrated and take its frustration out on others.”
The most important thing for Berisko is that the community knows the shelter is there to be a resource.
“If you feel you’re not the right home or can no longer care for the animal, at least we are here [and can] be a resource for that resident of our community,” Berisko said. “We can help facilitate a proper home for that animal.”
The Oconee County Animal Shelter welcomes volunteers, foster homes and, of course, adopted homes.
