Collector shares her
vintage toys with children
By Morgan Phillips
Lynn Kovaciny, a collector of eccentric and unique items, pulled out a bright green Scooby-Doo lunch box at her dining room table. As she unclasped the metal clips, a smile eased across her face.
The first item she pulled out was a miniature set of solitaire cards. There was a vintage domino set, a miniature set of bowling pins with two marbles for bowling balls and teddy bears as small as fingertips.
“I was with a friend at an estate sale...saw the bears on the way
out, and I just loved them,” said Kovaciny, who credits those bears with starting her collection three years ago.
Practically all the small collectibles that Kovaciny owns have either been given to her or were going to be thrown away.
“I’ve literally found some of my favorite things on the side of the road,” she said.
While working with kindergartners at the Athens Montessori School afterschool program, she would share her toys with children.
Two tiny teddy bears started Kovaciny’s collection.
Lynn Kovaciny collects unique, tiny toys that she finds at estate and yard sales. Anything that catches her eye, she adds to the collection.
