WHY IT MATTERS

Dover’s Downtown District is defined by the boundaries of Loockerman
Street, Legislative Green Park, Memorial Park, and the Delaware State
University (DSU) Downtown Campus. These areas define smaller
"districts" within the district. Even though these areas are defined by the
use of existing signage, adding supplementary signage with additional
wayfinding systems would help strengthen the unique identity of
Downtown Dover.

Through careful analysis and observation, the need to create stronger
and more eye-catching wayfinding systems is critical to the re-
imagination of downtown Dover. Enhancing the pedestrian experience
with colorful wayfinding implementations will bring new energy and
vibrancy into the downtown district, where foot-traffic and activity is
currently low. Pedestrians currently struggle to find their destination
with ease, and with the introduction of art and color into the new and
existing wayfinding systems, pedestrians will be able to navigate the
downtown district more effectively.
