Remembering Angie
Angie, some of us (the oldest Daniel siblings)
referred to you as Angie, while the youngest ones called you Angela or Kankela. But either way, you were sister to us all and never just our fifirst cousin. Although you were born and lived brieflfly in New York, you came to live with Auntie Vera and us in St. Croix and we created memories to last a lifetime.
You were very much a part of the family doing everything with us (going to school, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, playing, etc.). You even had your St. Patrick’s School uniforms made by our Neni Margaret as did Cordy. We remembered you got hooked on Auntie Vera’s “cornmeal” pop. There was never a night (maybe 1 or 2) that you didn’t have your cornmeal pop, even as an adult when you made it for yourself. We still laugh about that!
Later, when your mom (our Auntie Gwenie) returned from New York and you were now living with her, you were always still a part of us. You would be over to our house, or we would be over to Auntie’s, and we would all be having a good time cooking or eating, laughing, and reminiscing about some story or event or just enjoying each other’s company.
As the younger ones got older, you would cornrow Ingrid’s hair taking up every inch of hair that the styles lasted 1-2 months easily and still looked as if you just did it. You truly were the modern-day hair braider with your “Vienna sausage fifingers!” You were so cool, you would even allow Michael and Butch to drive your car, as young teenagers to their teenager hangouts. Not even sure if they had a driver’s license.... maybe a permit!! As the youngest, Michael remembers hanging out with you at the Board of Elections Offiffice with your infamous light sweater around your shoulder and just wondering what you and the staffff were busy doing. It was the only time you would have your serious face on.
We remember our long days at the beach with some good food that you and Auntie had prepared. Like remember the coleslaw? Seasoned rice? And don’t forget your infamous plain cake that you would make. We think you probably made a cake every weekend. But if there was ever a time you didn’t think it turned out to your liking, you weren’t going to let us taste it, very well knowing it tasted just like we always knew it would be... Simply delicious!
And how could we ever forget how much you loved looking at Soap Operas?! And if you knew you weren’t going to be home in time to see them, you taped it on your “VCR”. It was that serious! And by the way don’t even try calling you or having a conversation when you’re looking at the Soaps...you would get voicemail.
With your shyish chuckles, we can still hear you saying, Meh Son! You believe that?! And who could forget your hugs? There were no other hugs like yours, Angela! When you hugged, we felt it through our whole being, and we always walked away thinking that was a proper hug. Heaven now has the best Angel hugger ever!!!
We love you and will always miss you! REST IN HIS PEACE TILL WE MEET AGAIN...
Angie, Angela, Kankela!
