What is a Journal Article?
A journal article is a good source of knowledge about particular topic. A
journal article is commonly known as an article showing the research that has
been done by one or more scientists. It contains a specific study which has been
done in scientific way. Its scientific nature requires certain degree of
understanding regarding with the used terms. Plethora of technical words likely
appears in it. Thus, the content of the journal article is maybe difficult to
understand without sufficient background knowledge on a particular field of study.
However, every journal article still shares similar elements in terms of its
generic structure which are as follow.
1. title 5. result
2. abstract 6. discussion
3. introduction 7. conclusion
4. method 8. bibliography or reference
1. The Title
The title of a journal article commonly contains two kinds of information
which are the major idea(s) and the object(s) of study. The major idea(s) is the
organization of ideas while the object(s) of the study is the discussed matter.
The major idea may be manifested in one of these types as follow.
a. a correlation between one factor and the other
b. an effect or implication of certain aspect(s)
c. a development of a particular thing
d. a description of a specific practice or object
e. a comparison between somethings
However, those are just some examples of the types of major idea. In
practice, you may find other types of major ideas.
Now, pay attention to the example of the title of a journal article below.
The Title : Knowledge Production in a Cooperative Economy
The Major Idea : the development of knowledge production
The Object of Study : the knowledge of cooperative economy
