d) An orphan family
This is a family of children who live alone. They depend
on themselves. Their parents have died and there are no

family members or friends to take care of them.

e) A grandparent family

This is a family of grandparents who live with their grand
children. This is because the parents are dead.

In a family with the parents, the father and the mother are
the leaders of the family. They provide daily basic needs. In
an orphan family, the older child is responsible for taking care

of others.
To build and maintain good relationships, all family members

have to love and respect each other.

Activity
Study the family tree in Figure 5. Then compare it

with your family.
