Inclusionis an article of faith woven into everything BGCD does. As a long-time club member and now staffer says, “When you’re here, you belong.” Families are headed by moms and dads, grandparents, aunts, single moms, two moms, single dads, — so many configurations that no child feels his or her family is “different.” Seventy different languages are spoken at members’ homes, but the kids all communicate in a universal way when they come together at the club. And BGCD welcomes children of all abilities. Virtually any activity is adapted to include children and youth with cognitive or physical disabilities. The club’s work with the Martin Richard Foundation Challenger Sports Program is sought after as a model for inclusive programs around the Commonwealth as well as nationally. f
