FINAL REFLECTION
Writing in English is not easy for students but we can improve if we follow the correct
strategies and rules. In this subject WRITING II, I learned to write paragraphs and
essays, some points of grammar and punctuation. This syllabus included reading for
writing, and essential skills to develop the Academic Writing.
First of all, I started writing paragraphs. One was the expository paragraph which has
three levels: the topic sentence, supporting points, and specific examples. To have a
clear idea, I wrote a paragraph about role models, in where I had to give specific
information to make it understandable. There were logical division paragraphs about
celebrations, countries, or a person’s life. Then, I learned to write cause-and-effect
essays which contain problems and their consequences. Also, the comparison and
contrast essay in which it was necessary to have two parts: two things, places, people,
etc. To write a paragraph or an essay I had to follow some steps such as lists, outlines,
clusters, and the most important thing, the structure of each essay. It was very important
to use transition words, subordinating conjunctions and linkers. Finally, to write in a
better way, I practiced some grammar: superlatives, comparatives, adjectives order;
specific vocabulary for each type of essay, and also punctuation: how to use colons,
semicolons, and commas.
In conclusion, this subject Writing II helped me to develop all possible strategies and
techniques that are necessary to apply in daily life to get a good communication. It is
necessary to follow all the process, so we can build good and clear paragraphs and
essays.
