THE ZEITGEIST: TRAUMA AND THE PANDEMIC AND THE EFFECT ON CONSUMERISM
INTRODUCTION
A survey showed “65% of people said they had suffered a symptom of anxiety or depression during the pandemic” Survey Monkey (2020) Appendix 2. This chapter explores the amount of trauma that the pandemic as a whole has inflicted in the last ten months. Trauma can be defined as causing feelings such as helplessness in people. It also, “diminishes their sense of self-respect and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and experiences.” Susie Rogers, Therapist (2020). It then moves on to look in more detail at how it has then affected consumerism and, importantly how brands have reacted.
