Jennifer Barbour
Jennifer Loren is an Emmy-award winning filmmaker and the director of Cherokee Nation Film Office. Evolving from an investigative reporter and producer to a documentarian and host, she has been in the television and film industries since 2001. Jennifer started her career in television news where she moved around the country as an anchor, producer and investi- gative reporter, ultimately landing at home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2014, she
joined her tribe, working for Cherokee Nation Businesses and co-created the highly acclaimed docu- mentary-style show Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People. Jennifer is the executive producer, host and show-runner of the docuseries. Jennifer has been nominated for more than 30 Emmy awards and has been awarded ten of those; nine as Executive Producer and Host of Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee Peo- ple and one for investigative news coverage in 2012.
In 2019, Jennifer helped to create and roll out the Cherokee Nation Film Office and now serves as its director, as well as director of original content for the Cherokee Nation. A first-of-its kind endeavor by a tribal nation, the mission of the Cherokee Nation Film Office is to increase the presence of Native Americans in every level of the film and television industries, while creating opportunities for economic development and jobs in the Cherokee Nation. Also in 2019, Jennifer was named a Woman of the Year, Pinnacle Award winner by the Tulsa Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women and the Tulsa YWCA. That same year, she was appointed by Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum to serve as a commissioner on the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. In 2020, she was named The Journal Record Woman of the Year.
Jennifer is also a wife and mother. She has four daughters who keep her busy with after school activities and Jennifer volunteers with their PTA and school foundations. Jennifer is passionate about serving her public school alma mater, as the marketing and PR chair for the Booker T Washington Foundation for Excellence. She serves on the Rogers State University Public Television Advisory Board. Jennifer is a graduate of the Gaylord College of Journalism at the University of Oklahoma and an active member of the Native American Journalists Association and Society of Environmental Journalists. She is also a film commissioner with the Association of Film Commissions International.
