          Understanding Fibers

                                       Horsehair

Horsehair is a natural fiber that comes from the tail or mane of a horse. The fiber is considered a soft to
moderately stiff material that offers good texture and resilience. Horsehair withstands water and moisture and
may be used pure or blended with other materials. The soft texture of the fiber makes it ideal for cleaning smooth
floors. It is commonly used for scratchless cleaning of highly polished areas.
Ideal For: Indoor Applications, Fine Dust Cleaning, Smooth Surface.

                                       Polystyrene

Polystyrene is a synthetic fiber that is also known as “silver flagged”. The fiber withstands moisture and has
excellent wearing properties. When the ends are flagged, the styrene allows for more fine dust retention. Ideal for
                                       smooth surfaces and hardwood floors.
Ideal For: Usage with many strong solvents.
Can be used in temperatures of up to 180º F / 82º C

                                       Tampico

Tampico is a natural fiber that is creamy white in colour, however, the fibers are dyed black. Tampico has a soft
to medium texture with excellent durability. The fiber is water resistant with high heat, acid and alkaline resistant
properties. Tampico is frequently mixed or blended with other materials to vary texture and properties. It is a good
wearing and highly versatile fiber. Ideal for “all purpose” or medium sweeping.
Ideal For: Wet or Dry Applications. Acid and alkaline resistant.

                                       Nylon

Nylon is a synthetic fiber with excellent wearing qualities. Nylon is water resistant and won’t absorb moisture,
therefore discourages bacterial growth. Its high heat resistance and resistance to most acids enable the fiber to be
long wearing and highly sanitary. Nylon is widely used in food service brushes due to its resilience and durability.
It offers the highest quality and superior performance one requires in environments with high sanitary standards.
Ideal For: Foodservice applications to meet the needs of high sanitary standards.

                                       Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a synthetic fiber available straight or crimped in a variety of colours. The fiber is very light with
excellent resilience to acid and most solvents. Polypropylene has poor recovery from crushing, however, it can be
used in hot water and has good wearing properties.
Ideal For: Usage with many strong solvents/acid and abrasive scrubbing.

                                       Bassine

Bassine is a natural fiber that is obtained from the select and stiffer portions of the palmyra palm. It is the superior
quality or the select grade of palmyra fiber. Bassine is both durable and water resistant, which makes it an ideal
                                       choice for stiff scrubbing applications.
Ideal For: Outdoor usage where stiff scrubbing is required (wet and dry).
