My Easter Vacation
Saraka is a sacrifice. Persons gather the things
they need to cook the food. In the old days, the
food that was cooked were the first harvest crops.
A tray was prepared with food from each pot.
It was offered to the God of harvest.
This tradition continues to this day. The only
difference is that the trays from the different
houses are judged to determine where the big
drum dance would be the following year. The rest
of the food from the homes are divided into two.
Some are sent to the pasture where it is placed
on banana leaves.
All the children and adults would gather around
the leaves and eat the food. The rest of the food
is kept at home for visitors who don’t want to eat
from the banana leaves in the pasture.
