(yiii) Piracies in 1890*00.
403. In 1899 four cases of piracy woro reported. In 1900 there were five more

464. The details of the several piracies committed in 1899 and 1900 were
as follows;—
(1) In February 1899 a Persian boat was plundered off Abu Zaluf on
the Katar coast. It was subsequently reported, however, that it was doubtful

(2) On the 11th August 1899, a boat belonging to a Bahrein subject was
attacked and plundered near tho 8hakta pearl banks in the vicinity of Katif.
The pirates are said to have belonged to Daren in tho same neighbourhood,

reported, but a small proportion is said to
have been recovered. How recovery was affected is not clear. The Foreign

(3) On the ICth August 1899, a boat belonging to a Bahrein subject was

of Katar). The boat was subsequently recovered through Sheikh Ahmed-bin.

(4) In August 1899, two boats belonging to British Indian subjects were
plundered at Dibal on tho Katar coast. One of the boats was carried off and
abandoned near Zobarah on the same

coast. The total value of the property
stolen was over Bs. 16,000. Part, to the valuo of Rs. 2,067, was recovered
through 8heikh Ahmed-bin-Thani of Katar.
(6) On the 17th August 1900, a Bahrein boat was plundered on the Khora
pearl bank near Ras Tanaura by men from Daren. One of the Persians in the
boat was drowned, and property valued at Rs. 3,924 was carried off. As the

of Hasa, a sum of Rs. 996-8, together with
pearls, were eventually restored to the owner.
(6) On the 2nd September .1900, a party of men said to belong to the
Secret e., November 1900, Not 6S-66. Beni Hajir tribe attacked a Bahrein boat
secret e., iiirch 1902, No. 96. some 7 miles north of Bahrein, and carried
off property valued at Rs. 732. No redress was obtained.
(7) On the same date an attaok was made by men of the Beni Hajir tribe
on some Arabs on tho inland of Um

(8) On tho 18th August 1900, a Bahrein boat was attacked on the Grais-

(9) On the 6th September 1900, a Bahrein boat was attacked off Ojair.
