                                    slaughtered.
At the request of the Municipality the Medical Officer of Health arranged for the services
of a Sanitary Inspector to be allocated to Muharraq, this official is now carrying out his duties
and co-operating with the municipal staff.
The Municipality pumped out a large quantity of rain water which accumulated at the
north area of the town, for which purpose a second new pumping machine was bought; the

rent of the Waqf property for the grave yard.
The Municipal Council met 24 times, other committees met also and about 300 places
were inspected by the Inspection Committee. During the year a special committee was formed
to inspect dangerous buildings in the town, many places were demolished and some were
                                    repaired.
Vegetable Market. A new vegetable market was built by members of the Ruling Family
who own the vegetable and meat markets in Muharraq. The old market was an unsatisfactory
and insanitary collection of sheds. The new market consists of steel frame sheds roofed with
asbestos sheets and provided with cement floor and proper drainage.

Public Garden. A large triangular piece of ground close to the sea shore on the northern
edge of the town is to be made into a Municipal Garden. It is reclaimed land filled with town
rubbish but until the filling has throughly settled down garden work cannot be carried out in it.
During the year the Government constructed a wall to enclose the garden and it is hoped that
                                   in 1956 planting will commence.
