(e) Health. The percentage of men reporting sick during the year was as follows :

(/) Education. Towards the end of the year courses were begun to improve the
_ standard of literacy and recruits were being given instruction for about an hour
each day. Figures arc not now available for the percentage of literates and
semi-literates at the end of 1956 but we believe that about 10 per cent, of the
Force were literate in some degree.
