Public Conveyance Vehicles (Taxi Cabs and Buses)
10. There is still a steady demand for Public Conveyance Licences in spite of the numbers
of this type of vehicle on the road. It is intended to enlarge the bus stands at Manama and
Muharraq. There is a serious shortage of parking space in both of these towns and it appears
that the only way to overcome this is to re-claim more ground from the sea.
Driving Tests
11. Owing to the lack of qualified Traffic Officers it has been found necessary to reduce
the number of driving tests from 20 to 10 per day. During 1956, the total number of persons
examined was 2,252, of these 1,028, failed to meet the required standard. The total revenue
from driving tests was Rs. 11,265 0 0.

2 Arab Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 5 N.C.O’s and 42 men.
