Constant routine maintenance of all Government electrical installations was successfully
maintained during the year. Mr. W. Taylor (Installations Engineer) resigned his post and left
the Department on the 18th July. His successor, Mr. Manning, arrived on the 4th August but
he, unfortunately, did not prove satisfactory and he resigned on the 31st October.

The Gas/Electricity Project. The generating sets installed in Manama “B” Station
commenced regular operation on natural gas and 7 per cent, diesel oil on the 8th January and
they continued to operate successfully throughout the year. On this successful performance
they were accepted as Dual/Fuel engines at the year’s-end and negotiations were continuing
for a settlement of the Departments claim regarding the inability of the Contractors to supply
       the machines specified.
The scheme for supplying certain villages was 99 per cent, complete at the year’s-end.

Future Prospects. A start was made in December on the extension of Manama "B”
Power Station where the first of three 6,000 k.w. Gas Turbines is to be in commission for
April, 1958. Reorganisation of the Department’s accounting and billing arrangements will be
undertaken early in the coming year.
