           the subject. Sheikh Nasir thon asked whether in the ovont of our permanently
           occupying the island, wo should in such case opposo his going ovor to the
           main land and attacking tlio Persians. Captain Hcnncll replied that under
           present circumstances it was impossible to spcoulato with any certainty upon
           what turn affairs might take, but that in evory point of view this was a ques­
           tion to which ho did not fool himself competent to givo an answor, excepting
           under the special instructions of his own Government.
               542. In tho evening Sheikh Nasir paid a visit to Lieutenant-Colonel
           Sherriff in tho camp. Upon this occasion the subject of a place suitable for the
           deposit of coals and storos was again brought forward, and it was finally
           arranged that tho Commanding Officer should inspect tho position offered by tho
           Sheikh for this purpose before he decided upon its acceptance.
