Office of the Adviser to
tho Government, Bahrain
Dated, 6th Muharram 1-370
Ootohor 17, 1960.
Tho llony. Secretary,
Bahrain General Merchants' Association,
Bahrain.
Dear 8ir
This is to acknowledge your letter datod 87th
September 1960, containing a list of members and
tho rules of your association.
Regarding tho question of a Bahrain Chamber
of Commerce, I think it would "bo desirable and
■beneficial that there should "bo a Chamber of
Commerce in Bahrain but it appears that your
committee is under tho impression that a Chamber
of Commerce esn be formed merely by adopting tho
name, Chambers of Commerce all over the world are
linked by an international organisation which has a
central body and which meets in various countries,
theoe meetings are attended by representatives from
different parts of the world.
I have, at the moment, the Chairman of the Aden
Chamber of Commerce staying 06 a guest in my house
and I have arranged for him to obtain and send to me
tho books and forms otc., relating to the formation
of a Chamber of Commerce.
In connection with your letter, I would point
out one fact and that is that neither of the banks or
any of the British firms appear to bo members of your
organisation. As banking is one of the most important
features of trade it is obvious that should a Chamber
of Commerce be inaugurated in Bahrain the banko should
bo represented.
Until I can provido you with further particulars
about the formation of ouch an organisation you should
not take any action because to have a Chamber of
Commerce which is not proporly qualified or organlood
would be entirely useless.
Youro faithfully,
Adviser to the Government.
