                          Police Poroo#

It io thought th^t tho previous Lovy Corps and Polioo
woro unsatisfactory partly owing to tho following roasons#-

                   1. Tho mon of tho Lovy Oorpa had insufficient work#
A largo proportion of thorn woro ('not') alwaya^'on
duty# They did one parade a day, lasting not
more than two hours, and sometimes an hour at
                                          O.VC.
games oto# in the morning# While not on Duty
they spent their time in tho batiaars#

The levy dorps provided threo posts of about
six or eight men, Sitra, Bufaa, cor Budaiyah#
                        These posts woro visited onoe monthly#     Con-                    ;
soquontly men on duty on tho Posts were frequently
found to bo in tho basaar at Manama#

Tho pay of tho Lovy dorps man amounted altogether

to almost Bs# 40/n per month together with
uniform and rations# This would seem excessive#

Insufficient information was obtained about the
anteoodents of many of the men who woro enlisted#
It afterwards transpired that some of them had
served terms of imprisonment and some had boon

discharged from other units for bad conduct#

Laok of p. permanent dommandant was not conductive
                        to improvements in the dorps#

A number of tho mon spoke neither Arabic nor
                        Persian#

2# The Polloe force was paid at the same rate as the

Levy dorps# Most of the men lived in the town
                                                                      and
