It is almost impossible to state exactly the relative proportions
of the various Idmls of piece-goods now in demand, as detailed
statistics are not available; from details collected from various
quarters, however, out of a total of some 600,000 pieces (which
represents the greatest part of the total import) the percentages
work out approximately as follows :—

A comparison with the figures of past years is not possible,
but there would appear to be a gradual decline in the market for
             the heavier cotton goods—especially Mexicans 96 yards—and a
greater liking for fancy coloured goods. This is marked in the
increase of the use of light cotton and wool trouserings and suitings
(called Fastuni) by those classes thrown most in touch with
Europeans. The values of the imports of such tissues of cotton
mixed with wool have been for :—
