neighbour’s wife, with whom he had an intrigue, Ee was
sentenced:to death and excuted by shooting,
Liouor Cases,
The importation and consumption of any form of
alcohol is forbidden in Bahrain. Unfortunately during
recent years the illegal manufacture of liquor has increased
very considerably. A number of raids were made by the
Police during the year and heav^ sentences were imposed on
consumers and makers of liquor.
Cultured Pearl Case.
A case which attracted much attention both locally
and outside Bahrain was one in which a local merchant was
convicted of importing two cultured pearls, one of v/hich he
sold knowing it to be cultured. The merchant was a brother-
in-law of Shaikh 1'ohamed bin Isa, brother of the Ruler, and
most unsuitable efforts were made by some of his highly
placed relations to prevent a conviction. The case was
brought by the Police and tried in the 3ahrain Court, A
committee of experts including the Continental pearl mer
chants, was consulted as to the pearls themselves, The
culprit, Abdulla A1 Zaid, was sentenced to pay a fine of
Rs. 3000/- and forbidden to trade in pearls in Bahrain for
ttew years, * /35t).
The imposition of this sentence was greatly
appreciated by the pearling community who realise the
danger to their trade which results from traffic in cultured
pearls.
Siadi- Estate Case,
The most important civii case dealt with during the
year was the Siadi Estate Case in which two cousins are the
parties. Property and money exceeding in value seven lacs
of Ruppes are involved in theX case which has not yet been
