                    868  During the confusion which followed the capitulation of Fay$al to the Egyptians, the tribes of
                    al-Buraymi ordered Sa‘d b. Muflaq to evacuate the forts there. A few months later, Sa‘d
                    reappeared in al-Shariqah with a small force as the emissary of the Egyptians, and tried to assert
                    Egyptian influence in both al-Buraymi and the coast. However, the British Resident in the Gulf
                    forced him to abandon his project and return to Najd.
