Saudi Arabia were being initially developed. With loss in oil revenue, the newly
acquired economic framework and its dependent population were confronted with
an end to industrialization and modernization.
Some of these problems were foreseen, and steps were taken to ensure
economic longevity. While Bahrain’s oil reserves are small in comparison with
neighboring countries, the supply of readily available natural gas is not. Natural
gas provides a local energy source easily converted into electricity. With this new
energy source has come a new phase of development. Bahraini planners now seek
to change from the export of local petroleum to the supply of goods and services.
