TECHNICAL SCHOOL
(From the Report of Mr. Said Tabbara, Headmaster of the Technical School)
At the beginning of 1371 there were 65 students registered at the school ; at the end of the
year 66 boys were attending school out of the 70 who had registered, of these 20 were in the
carpentry section and 46 were in the mechanical section. In addition, 17 students from the
Bahrain Petroleum Company attended a special class during the year. In the last twelve
months 12 boys left the school before completing their course, most of them went to work in
Saudi Arabia.
The programme followed in the school was, in general, the same as during the previous
year. Six students presented themselves for their final examination in June 1952, four of them
passed out, two of these obtaining posts with the Government and two with the Bahrain
Petroleum Company. The other two boys were required to repeat the work of one term.
Some new equipment including a hacksawing machine and an oxygen acetylene welding
outfit was acquired during the year. A new bus chassis was bought for the school and the
students themselves constructed the body for it. The bus will be used for conveying students
to and from Muharraq.
During the year parties of boys from the school visited the Bahrain Petroleum Company’s
workshops and installations, the Government Power House and the Transport Department.
The usual exhibition of work was held at the beginning of the summer and all the furniture
which was exhibited was sold.
Attendance at school was good during the year and the health of the boys was satisfactory.
