                            OIL INSPECTION DEPARTMENT. ANNUAL REPORT
                    The Bahrain production figures continue to remain almost constant, operations are carried
                out to maintain the greatest production consistent with good oilfield practice, and long life of
                the field. The figures for the last five years are :—

                    Drilling has continued on a small scale, and repair and anti-corrosive work has been
                 proceeded with.
                    The gauging of both Bahrain and Arabian Crude has been carried out and also the inspec­
                 tion of ship’s cargoes, figures being as follows for the last five years :

                    Major construction projects were completed at the Refinery during the year and throughput
                 was nearly constant during the year. The second pipeline—sea section—was completed and
                 put into operation towards the end of the year, and has been of considerable benefit, stepping up
                 the amount of oil brought by pipeline up to about 168,000 Bbls. per day. The Refinery through­
                 put this year has been 9,254,140 Long Tons compared with 8,680,984 Long Tons for 1951.
                    Graphs are attached showing the Refinery throughput and Royalty figures, but a new basis
                 for the calculation of Royalty is now in effect on a profit sharing basis. The ship inspection
                 figures are also shown in graph form.

                    The cost of works carried out by the Department by direct labour in 1371 was Rs. 54,85,290
                 —an increase of over 8 lakhs on the total for 1370.
                    The sum of Rs. 2,52,230 was paid to contractors for construction works ; and a further
                 Rs. 60,619 was paid for reclaiming land and filling swampy ground.
