The decrease in the number of staff is due to the gradual reduction of the Food Control staff.
Bills of Entry :
The total number of Bills of Entry dealt with in 1367 was 13,019, an increase of 3,193 over 1366.

The total number of Shipping Bills dealt with during the year amounted to 18,084, an increase
of 3,458 over last year.

The increase in both the number of Bills of Entry, and Shipping Bills dealt with during the year,
is an indication of a definite trade revival.
Accidents within the port:—
On the 29th of February 1948, an old launch belonging to Messrs. Gray, Mackenzie & Co., Ltd.,
which had been fitted with a new engine, caught fire and was burnt out during trials.
The Light Tender " NEARCHUS ” paid her usual visits of inspection to the lights and buoys
in the port.
General:—The Budget estimate for Customs revenue for 1368 is considerably higher than for
1367, this is in view of present trade conditions, with no sign of any downward trend in prices.
GENERAL
Appointments.—Mr. Ahmed Al-Umran who for 27 months was Acting Director of Education
was confirmed in his appointment. Mr. Ibrahim Khalfan and Mr. Kadhim Al-Asfoor, who were,
respectively, acting as Secretary to the Muharraq Municipal Council and Passport Officer, were
confirmed in their appointments.
