comer is covered with a very hard grey cemented floor, situated .25 m. below the top of the
platform.

Tvwo further installations of this type have been uncovered in Bahrain during the
excavation of Maqsha conducted by the Bahrain Department of Antiquities under the
direction of Sheikha Haya A١ halifa' during the Gulf Survey of June 1978. They appear to
belong to a domestic complex of relatively recent date (17th century?) and are the same type
sa those at Oal'at el-Bahrain, although smaller in sie, approximately 1.6 m. by 1.6 m. and
1.6 m. by 2.7 m. They comprise only four parallel channels with a gradient of almost 1 in
I in the larger of the structures and differ from the platforms in the fortress in two ways: the
absence of the small surrounding wall along the far wall of the room, and above all, the
absence from the same room of the terminal resevroir. The latter, a buired earthenware jar,
s in the adjoining room which appears to be a kitchen and is connected to the perpendicular
channel of the platform by piping which cuts through the dividing wall.

‫ ﻭ‬are grateful to Sheikha Haya A١ W-haelifa forehaving authorisedhand facilitated atccess to
documents and plan (no, 26211) relating to the Maqsha excavation.
