Dr Ghosh's visit was not restricted to this mission only, however, as the Government
ked him to participate in prcparing for the Asian Conference to be held in Bahrain in 197.
Dr Ghosh wrote his report, as comprehensively as he could. He explained the cultural,
;k and natural possibilities of Bahrain. He admired what he had seen and he suggcstedﺇ
١me ideas concerning the prospective museum, which he insisted be a permanent one and
١mbined three main subjects; Archaeology, Enthonography and Geology. He cnumerated
١e important points for establishing a Department to run the museum, and at the same time
١ be responsible for the antiquities of Bahrain in general. He called for a start of
2gotiations with the Danish Archaeological Expedition to return Bahrain's share of the
:chaeological finds made from Denmark, as soon as possible, and to prepare Bahrainis to
oulder the responsibility.
The care and interest in Archaeology had increased as a result of the regular meetings of
١e Committee of Co-ordination and the preparing Committee for the expected conference
١ be held in Bahrain.
Among the matters which had been discussed in the first committee's meetings were the
ntiquities Law, the establishment of an Archaeological Department, the preservation of
١e archaeological sites, including cleaning and guarding them, the report of the
chaeological finds in different places in Bahrain, and the adoption of Dr Ghosh's
oposals, sa soon as poossible.
But the Organising Committee for the Conference considered the Antiquities matter as
١e main element, which the proposed Conference was all about. It concentrated all its
forts in order to hasten the establishment of the Antiquities Office, and to provide an
pert to work for a short time in that oiffce, to establish the museum, and to qualify a
ebr mof Bahrainis to undertake the w.orkﻻ
It nominated Mr Bibbvy for the appointment, therefore a letter was sent to Arhus
[useum Board delegating Mr Bibby to work in Bahrain in order to uitlise his expetrise in
ahrain Archaeology. He had been previously worikng in Bahrain for more than twelve
:asr as the Field Director for the Danish Archaeoloigcal Expedition.
