American • s the oldest hospital in Bahrain and
to provia : treatment. The medical services it
rendered to \ .ahrain over the years have been
invaluable. In its ear ospital played an important part in
combatting smallpo;: and or,epidemics and in wiping out malaria
i that afflicted the country at that urne. Its good work was not restricted
to the islands of Bahrain, for it used to send physicians to treat
patients in neighbouring countries, and sick people from neighbouring
countries travelled to Bahrain to receive treatment at the hospital. As
i Bahrain’s medical services expanded, the dedicated and skillful
doctors and nurses of the American Mission Hospital continued to
make an important contribution in providing medical care to the people
of the region.
We would like to pay tribute to the artists who have contributed their
work to this exhibition. Proceeds from the sale of works of art
exhibited here will go to the hospital. Thus both artists and members
of the public connected with this exhibition are participating in a
worthwhile cause.
We take this opportunity to thank His Highness Sheikh Isa bin
Salman Al Khalifa for patronising this exhibition. We also thank all
those who have contributed with their efforts to ensure the success of
the centenary celebrations, and wish the American Mission Hospital
continued success and development. I pay tribute to all the hospitals
staff, who through their distinguished service, tireless efforts,
professionalism and dedication, have cared for so many people.
