Tbe accompanying returns show a considerable increase both in Ex­
ports and Imports over those of last year. The date crop was excep­
tionally good and the amount of dates exported shows an increase of
nearly two lacs of dollars over that of the preceding year. There seems,
however, to have been a good deal of speculation or over-trading, which,
considering the difficulty of collecting outstandings from the Arabs, is
certainly Unwise, and a larger number of insolvencies than usual has
been the result.
