It will thus be seen that with the exception of certain types of rice and Indian flour,
the remaining commodities have increased in price on an all round average of between 50 and 60 per
       cent over 1361.

Prices of Piece-Goods remained high throughout the year, due to merchants speculating locally
with a view to selling to Persian Nakhudas who are allowed to export articles to the value of their
imports of certain essentials, such as Cattle, Sheep, Goats, etc.
With the exception of the poor, for whom arrangements were made by the Government, the
public found great difficulty in purchasing their requirements at reasonable prices. Steps have now
been taken to ensure a fair distribution of these commodities at controlled prices for all classes.

The drop in the number of Native Craft calling at Bahrain and in particular those from the
Arabian Mainland may be attributed to the fact that the export of such commodities as dates, ghee,
etc., are totally prohibited from Saudi Arabia.
