During the 1365 holidays building became less difficult and an agreement was made with the
Minors Department for a large addition to the East Primary school consisting of another floor con­
taining about eight class rooms built above the existing structure. At the beginning of the new term
the Secondary School moved into the new building and what had been the Secondary School was
taken over by the hostel. Two new quarters for married teachers were built above the Secondary
School to be occupied by the headmaster and another teacher. These two blocks of school houses
now form one of the largest buildings in Bahrain. At the Manama West School four houses were
built on the eastern edge of the playground to accommodate married teachers. The lease of the old
Bank which for some years provided accommodation for unmarried men teachers was renewed for a
fourth year during which time it was hoped that it would be possible for the Government to construct
another building for the teaching staff.

At the beginning of the 1364-5 school year, which is from early October until the end of June,
all the schools were filled to capacity; 219 new boys were admitted and no boys left. Several
hundred boys, whose parents applied for their admission, could not be taken into the schools as in
almost all cases they were young and the lower classes were full.

Of the 82 masters who formed the staff of the Government boys schools, 23 were foreigners,
mostly Egyptians, and the remainder were Bahrain Arabs who had cither received their education
locally or had been educated for some time abroad at the expense of the Government.
