OIL INSPECTION
In 1365 (1946) Mr. G. B. Thompson took over the duties of Government Petroleum Inspection
dealing with oil on which a royalty is paid to the Bahrain Government and also gauging and certifying
oil products which are shipped from Bahrain by the Bahrain Petroleum Company to outside purchasers.
The year 1365 (1946) has been a record one as far as the local oil industry is concerned, royalty,
Bahrain production, crude from Arabia, Refinery throughput, products shipped, number of ships
taking cargoes and the number of employees have all shown high returns.
Production of Bahrain crude has been maintained at an economical level consistent with the
best oil field practice while a small increase obtained during the latter part of the year appears to have
a reasonable prospect of being maintained.
Modification to the refining units has made it possible to increase it throughout, and during
part of the year additional shipments of Arabian crude oil were received by Tanker in addition to the
crude by pipe line.
The shipment of all products increased considerably with the stepped-up throughput of the
Refinery both drum and bulk cargoes having reached record figures.
The royalty payable has exceeded the estimated figure for the year. The number of Govern
ment gauged cargoes has increased considerably with a record month showing twenty-five ships, forty-
seven cargoes amounting to 255, 604 tons, resulting in a record for fees earned. Diagrams indicating
the crude handled and cargoes gauged are shown below:
