          6. The present Post Office, Police Station and the quarters above the Police Station to be
demolished and in their place, forming the whole south side of the square, a two storey
building to be erected containing Government offices which will accommodate the
Land Department, Superintendent of Police’s office, etc, etc. His Highness’s personal
office and a suitable majlis for public meetings. A bridge will connect the two blocks
of office buildings with a road below it leading from the square up the main bazaar
              street.

          7. Construction of a new post office and police station behind the new Government offices,
on the northern road frontage of the old import shed, with four fiats above them,
leaving between them and the Government offices a 50 feet wide road.

Public Works Department Buildings.—In addition to the town improvement plan in the
centre of Manama plans were made and approved for the construction of a number of largo sheds,
stores, garages and offices for the Public Works Department with a fiat for the Superintendent of the
department above the offices, on the south side of the Manama-Muharraq causeway on land to be
reclaimed from the sea, extending from the shore along the causeway to a distance of 725 feet with
a width of 100 feet. In the past the Public Works Department has been housed in a decrepit building
behind the Adviserate, for lack of any other suitable accommodation, and the Superintendent has
occupied hired quarters in the town. One small shed contained all Public Works Department stores
and much surplus material was kept in empty rooms in the palace and other places. The site on the
edge of the sea was chosen in order to avoid haulage costs for building material such as stone, sand
and juss most of which is brought ashore in small sailing dhows. These materials will in future be
unloaded at the Public Works Department yards and stored on site.
