In the same chain of El Heman, and at an
equal distance from the sea as the Jebel
Mokatteb, from whence, in a north-west di
rection, it is distant about a quarter of a
mile, stands the Jebel Narkous, or “ Moun
tain of the Bell.” Considerable attention has
also of late years been directed towards the
phenomenon connected with this remarkable
spot, though the accounts hitherto furnished
by travellers are neither so full nor so satis
factory as could be wished. It forms one of
a ridge of low calcareous hills, at a distance
