Jal Cooper had reprinted the paragraph from an article written by
‘Savoy’ in November 1971 -
Whatever the scope of your philatelic interest, build
a Collection which displays original research and
knowledge, rather than only your wealth. Study the
writings of earlier generations of Collectors who
learned, by their own endeavours, and who placed
on record the results of their research that others
might share that knowledge. And, in your turn, make
available to others what you have learned,
“Enjoy yourself - It is later than you think.”
Had it not been there, constantly in front of me to spur me on, I
do not think I should ever have attempted to write this Handbook.
But, if it helps in any small way to further philatelic knowledge, it will
have been well worth all the midnight oil.
